The Federal period (c. 1780–1820) was America’s first true design movement after independence, inspired by the ideals of balance and symmetry championed by Thomas Sheraton, George Hepplewhite, and the Neoclassical work of Robert Adam. Furniture from this era reflected a young nation’s taste for refinement with clean lines, light proportions, and simple elegance.
This chest is a textbook example: solid walnut construction with hand-cut dovetails, delicate beading along the drawer edges, and original oval brass pulls that have darkened to perfection over time.
