Art Deco English Walnut Wardrobe
$3,260.00
Sold Out
Made in England in the manner of Maple & Co between the late 1920s and early 1930s, this piece reflects a quieter side of Art Deco. No mirrors or chrome. Just clean lines, curved edges, and carefully chosen materials. The feet borrow from Queen Anne. The brass hardware nods to the earlier Chinoiserie revival. And the doors? Faced in matched burl walnut veneer—mistaken sometimes for bird’s-eye maple, but deeper in tone, with a more fluid grain.
Inside, the layout is all original: four fixed shelves on the right, hanging space on the left, two dovetailed drawers below, and a pair of upper compartments. The lock still works. The key is still with it. Nothing’s been stripped, replaced, or rebuilt.
It’s not just rare because of its style—it’s rare because it survived. Pieces like this were often casualties of time, war, or overzealous renovation. If this wardrobe remained in England through the 1940s, it would have lived through the Blitz, when millions of homes—and the furnishings inside them—were lost. Somehow, this one endured.
And at some point, it crossed the Atlantic.
Today, it stands as a nearly 100-year-old example of transitional English design. One that blends old-world influence with the evolving needs of a modern home. Still intact. Still useful. And becoming harder to find in this condition.
