This 18th century antique is a true example of early American craftsmanship. Crafted from dense American black walnut and native hardwoods like birch, the weight and density of this old growth wood is something you can immediately feel in person. It is entirely handmade, featuring hand turned chalice posts and hand planed surfaces from an era long before power machinery. Originally constructed as a traditional rope bed, it was later converted to accommodate modern bed rails, with the faint scars of the original wooden rope pegs still visible on the lower frame. This piece is a 3/4 size bed, measuring just under a standard full size. It could be adapted to fit a full mattress, or paired with a custom 3/4 size mattress easily ordered online to fit the original frame perfectly.
