19th Century R. J. Horner Oak China Cabinet

from $7,500.00

An exceptional American Victorian quarter sawn oak curved glass china cabinet crafted in New York City circa 1890 - 1900. This magnificent piece is constructed to the highest standards of the legendary cabinetmaker R. J. Horner and Company, capturing the absolute peak of Gilded Age luxury and design.

The craftsmanship is evident in the remarkable figural carvings. Hand sculpted directly out of massive, solid blocks of tiger oak, the upper stiles feature highly expressive lion griffin masks that transition seamlessly into elegant caryatid pilasters. The lower frame is grounded by heavily carved, muscular claw feet. Pristine, original serpentine bent glass panels wrap gracefully around the front and sides, showcasing a brilliant, wavy period reflection.

Designed for both structural stability and optimal presentation, the cabinet features an advanced split interior layout. The top half is fitted with three glass shelves against a full mirrored backing to maximize light and reflection, while the lower half incorporates two solid oak display shelves set against a premium, dual vertical panel wood back. Marked on the frame with early workshop inventory stamps and preserving its rich, original hand rubbed finish, this heirloom quality masterpiece represents a rare survival of late 19th century American artistry.
