Made by Innis, Pearce & Co, dated October 1920. This vanity features a figured birds eye maple veneer with incredible chatoyancy. This company started out as a large lumber mill in Indiana and transitioned into fine furniture for most of it's existence. They also held majority stock in many other companies including the manufacturer of the Louisville Slugger baseball bat.
Founded in 1884, the company grew quickly and built a solid foundation as a fine furniture brand. In their eighth year, they nearly closed their doors due to a devastating fire that required them to build feom the ground up again. They had $16,000 on insurance for the factory, but the total devestation was marked at $80,000. Despite all odds, they rebuilt and thrived for over two more decades. There's some debate over the exact dates, but it's said that the company closed the fine furniture branch of their brand in 1921, making this vanity one of the last pieces to come from them.
Unfortunately, like many others, as time passed into the era of the Great Depression, all of their holdings ceased. Once again I say, invest in the past. These pieces are only becoming more rare.
This vanity maintains most of it's origin finish with the exception of the top. It has been restored. The back of each mirror is stamped October 1920. It is structurally sound and functional with it's original tag attached.
