English Edwardian Buffet with Art Nouveau Influence, Original Beveled Mirror, Circa 1900 to 1910
A beautifully preserved English Edwardian buffet dating to the turn of the twentieth century, carrying the transitional influence of the Art Nouveau movement. This piece reflects one of the most interesting shifts in furniture history, when design began moving away from the heavier ornament of the Victorian era and toward lighter, cleaner forms with softer decorative movement.
Its structure remains grounded in traditional English cabinetmaking, with a strong architectural case, oak secondary wood, and hand cut dovetail joinery, all hallmarks of the quality craftsmanship still expected during this period. The carved door panels and original hardware introduce the softer flowing influence of Art Nouveau, creating that distinctive overlap between traditional Edwardian structure and the emerging decorative freedom of a new century.
This piece retains its original beveled mirror, original working locks, and original key, all details that speak to its authenticity and survival over more than a century. Its original finish remains intact and presents beautifully, with age appropriate wear and patina that preserve the history and character of the piece while maintaining excellent structural integrity.
A small note for transparency, one of the original bail pulls is currently missing its swing arm in the listing photos, but the replacement swing arm will be installed prior to delivery. The piece will also be fully detail cleaned and polished before it leaves our shop.
Pieces from this transitional Edwardian period are especially collectible because they represent a rare moment in furniture history when craftsmanship remained deeply traditional, but design had begun leaning toward a more modern style.
A substantial and highly functional antique, ideal as a dining room buffet, sideboard, entry piece, or statement storage cabinet.
