American Renaissance Revival Walnut Parlor Table, c. 1870
Dating to the third quarter of the 19th century, this American Renaissance Revival parlor table is crafted primarily of walnut and retains its original beveled stone top. The richly colored fossiliferous stone is attributed to East Tennessee, where the material historically known as Tennessee marble was quarried throughout the 19th century and used for furniture tops and architectural applications.
Designed as a parlor or occasional table, its compact scale reflects the smaller tables used throughout Victorian interiors for entertaining, reading, and displaying decorative objects. The architectural base and original casters are characteristic of American Renaissance Revival furniture of the period.
The table remains in original antique condition with wear consistent with age and use and is fully functional.
