Elegant 19th century Victorian slipper chair featuring a beautifully shaped upholstered form with a deeply tufted back, carved crest rail, and turned front legs. Slipper chairs were originally designed as low seating for dressing rooms and bed chambers, named for their practical use while putting on shoes or slippers. Their low profile and armless design made them both functional and comfortable, and today they remain one of the most recognizable upholstered forms of the Victorian period.
This example retains its classic Victorian silhouette with strong period character and excellent proportions. The front turned legs appear period-correct to the frame and complement the chair’s original form beautifully. Upholstery was professionally redone just a few years ago and remains in excellent condition, making this a wonderful ready-to-use antique without the immediate need for restoration.
The fabric is a pale dusty rose jacquard woven damask with a subtle floral pattern that suits the piece well and feels very much in keeping with the romantic layered textiles of the Victorian era. The frame remains solid and sturdy with age-appropriate wear consistent with its history.
A timeless accent piece perfect for a bedroom, dressing area, sitting room, or layered into a collected traditional interior. A wonderful blend of antique character and practical comfort.
