This 18th century Georgian pine armoire is constructed from old growth pine with remarkably tight grain throughout. This substantial armoire has the scale and architectural presence associated with Georgian furniture of the late 1700s. A deeply molded cornice, decorative dentil molding, shaped paneled doors and paneled sides elevate what was ultimately designed to be a highly functional piece of household furniture. Behind the large double doors is a spacious interior, while three drawers below provide additional storage. Shelves or a hanging rod can be added by request upon purchasing for no extra cost.
More than two centuries of use have left their mark. The hardware has seen changes over time, including replacement hinges, and the surface retains plenty of wear, old repairs, irregularities and evidence of its long working life. Inside, the dark untouched boards and early construction provide a wonderful contrast to the lighter exterior and offer a glimpse of just how much age this piece carries.
This is not an antique we wanted to make perfect. Its character is part of its history, and stripping away every imperfection would also mean stripping away much of what makes it special. Instead, it has been preserved as an exceptionally strong and sturdy piece of 18th century furniture that can continue to be used and appreciated today.
